The answer is yes!
Inkscape is a powerful, FREE, and open-source vector graphics editor that works seamlessly with Cricut Design Space.
Using Inkscape with Cricut can enhance your creative process and expand your design capabilities. Here’s everything you need to know.
What is Inkscape?
Inkscape is a graphic design tool specifically designed for creating and editing vector images. Unlike raster images, which are made of pixels, vector images use mathematical equations to create sharp and scalable designs.
This makes Inkscape perfect for crafting projects, as vector graphics maintain their quality regardless of size.
Inkscape is compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux, making it accessible to nearly everyone. Best of all, it’s FREE to use, which is especially appealing for small business owners or hobbyists looking to keep costs down.
How to Use Cricut with Inkscape

- Upload to Cricut Design Space: Open Cricut Design Space and upload your SVG file. From there, you can resize, position, and cut your design with your Cricut machine.
Benefits of Using Inkscape with Cricut
- Advanced Design Features: Inkscape offers features like advanced path manipulation, gradient fills, and custom text effects, giving you greater creative freedom.
- Cost-Effective Solution: Since Inkscape is free, it’s an excellent alternative to paid design software like Adobe Illustrator.
- Full Control Over Your Designs: Inkscape allows you to create custom designs from scratch, modify existing SVG files, or convert raster images into vector graphics. This level of control can help you achieve a more professional look for your Cricut projects.
- Scalability: SVG files created in Inkscape are resolution-independent, meaning your designs will look crisp and clear no matter the size of your project.
Tips for Success
- Practice Makes Perfect: Inkscape has a learning curve, so invest time in learning its features through tutorials and practice projects.
- Check Your SVG File: Before uploading to Cricut Design Space, ensure your file is properly saved and optimized for cutting.
- Experiment: Don’t hesitate to experiment with Inkscape’s tools to create unique designs that stand out.

UV DTF vs Vinyl: Why UV DTF Transfers Are the Better Choice for Your Crafting Needs
Crafting is a world filled with endless possibilities, but choosing the right materials and techniques can make or break your projects. One of the hot topics among crafters today is the comparison of UV DTF (Direct to Film) transfers and traditional adhesive vinyl.
*This article was generated partially with the assistance of ChatGPT, a large language model developed by OpenAI.
Both have their uses, but UV DTF transfers are rapidly gaining popularity due to their ease of use, superior quality, and versatility.
In this article, we’ll explore why UV DTF transfers are much easier and better than adhesive vinyl for most crafting applications.
What Is UV DTF?
UV DTF is a relatively new technology that allows full-color designs to be printed onto a clear film and then transferred onto various surfaces using adhesive.
The process involves UV printing, which uses ultraviolet light to cure ink instantly, creating vibrant, durable designs. This method bypasses the need for cutting, weeding, and layering, making it an excellent alternative to adhesive vinyl.
Why UV DTF Is Easier to Use
1. No Weeding Required
One of the most time-consuming and frustrating aspects of working with adhesive vinyl is weeding. This process involves removing excess vinyl around your design, which can be tedious, especially for intricate patterns.
UV DTF transfers eliminate this step entirely. Once printed, the design is ready to transfer without any additional preparation, saving you hours of work.
2. Simplified Application Process
Applying adhesive vinyl often requires meticulous alignment, transfer tape, and a steady hand to avoid bubbles and wrinkles. With UV DTF, the transfer process is much simpler. The adhesive backing ensures the design sticks securely to the surface, and the clear film allows for precise placement. There’s no need for transfer tape or advanced skills, making it beginner-friendly.
3. Fewer Tools Required
Using adhesive vinyl typically requires a cutting machine such as a Cricut, weeding tools, and transfer tape.
In contrast, UV DTF transfers don’t require specialized equipment. Designs are printed and cured, and you can transfer them using nothing more than pressure and sometimes heat. This accessibility makes UV DTF an excellent choice for crafters without a Cricut or Silhouette machine.
Why UV DTF Is Better Than Vinyl
1. Full-Color and Intricate Designs
Adhesive vinyl is often limited to solid colors or requires layering for multi-color designs, which can be time-intensive and prone to errors. UV DTF allows for full-color, high-resolution printing in a single layer. You can create intricate designs, gradients, and photo-quality images effortlessly.
2. Works on a Wider Range of Surfaces
While adhesive vinyl adheres well to smooth, flat surfaces like glass, plastic, and metal, its performance can vary on curved or textured surfaces. UV DTF transfers are more versatile, adhering to a broader range of materials, including wood, ceramics, and even fabric. This flexibility opens up endless possibilities for customization projects.
3. Durability and Longevity
Adhesive vinyl is prone to peeling, fading, and cracking over time, especially when exposed to outdoor elements. UV DTF transfers, on the other hand, are incredibly durable. The UV-curing process creates a waterproof, scratch-resistant finish that holds up against weather, washing, and wear. This makes UV DTF ideal for long-lasting projects like outdoor signs or frequently used items.
4. Professional-Quality Results
UV DTF delivers a polished, professional look that’s difficult to achieve with vinyl. The vibrant colors and seamless application elevate the quality of your projects, making them more appealing to customers or gift recipients.
Cost Considerations
UV DTFs can be cheaper than buying rolls of adhesive vinyl. You simply upload your design online and order the quantity you want. Adhesive vinyl may seem cheaper initially, but when you factor in the cost of tools, transfer tape, and the time spent on weeding and layering, UV DTF becomes a cost-effective solution in the long run.
When to Choose UV DTF Over Vinyl
- Intricate or Multi-Color Designs: UV DTF simplifies the process of creating detailed, colorful designs.
- Durable Projects: For items exposed to wear and tear, UV DTF provides a longer-lasting finish.
- Unusual Surfaces: UV DTF adheres well to surfaces that vinyl struggles with, such as curved or textured materials.
- Quick Turnaround: If you’re short on time, UV DTF eliminates several steps, speeding up production.
Final Thoughts
When comparing UV DTF vs vinyl, UV DTF clearly comes out ahead in terms of ease of use, versatility, and quality. It eliminates the hassle of weeding, simplifies the application process, and delivers stunning, professional results that last.
Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or just starting out, UV DTF transfers can revolutionize your crafting experience and help you create projects with ease and confidence.
So, next time you’re planning a crafting project, consider giving UV DTF a try. It might just become your new favorite technique!

10 Cricut Dollar Store Items To Save Money
Cricut Dollar store items are all the rave.
With the cost of all items being extremely expensive, crafters are looking for ways to reduce the overall cost of making their crafts.
If you’re crafting with a Cricut, things can get expensive really fast, but if you’re looking to save money on the items you use with your Cricut, the dollar store is the place to go.
Please note that when buying online from Dollar Tree, some items have a minimum order quantity you must purchase. So for example, instead of purchasing 1 item, you may have to purchase 6 or 24.
You can also buy all of these items online at Amazon and I have organized the items you need for different types of Cricut projects.
1. Weeding Tool
If you’re cutting heat transfer vinyl (HTV) or adhesive vinyl with your Cricut machine, you’re going to need a weeder. Instead of buying and using the Cricut weeder or basic tool set, you can buy the individual weeder at Dollar Tree for about $1.25.
2. Scraper
Regardless of the material you’re putting on your cutting mat, you will likely need a scraper to help you smooth out the material. If you want an individual scraper, buy it at Dollar Tree and save money.
3. Scissors
There’s nothing special about the Cricut scissors except they’re dangerously sharp. My famous red scissors that I use in all my YouTube videos are from Dollar Tree. Go get you some, they’re kid-friendly.
4. Tweezers
I mostly only use my tweezers when I’m working with super tiny crafts and again, get them from Dollar Tree instead of paying 3 times the amount for the Cricut brand tweezers.
5. Adhesive vinyl /iron on vinyl
If you want to practice cutting adhesive vinyl or iron-on vinyl and save money, I recommend getting these materials from Dollar Tree first.
Because these items are much cheaper at Dollar Tree, you can get familiar with cutting them before moving to the more expensive but good brands such as Siser or Cricut brand adhesive or iron-on vinyl.
6. Glass Drinkware
If you need any glass drinkware that you want to etch or put adhesive vinyl on, go to Dollar Tree.
They have a great variety of wine glasses, drinking glasses, bourbon glasses, and even dessert/shot glasses.
Buying these glasses from Walmart, Amazon, or other major retailers will cost you much more.

5 Cricut Skills To Have To Be Above Average
If you want to be an above-average Cricut user, you have to know how to use your Cricut machine in the best way.
When you’re faced with making 10 shirts and you have limited time, what do you do?
If you want to create “all the things” you need to know how to find sales for those products you need.
Read this article on how to become an above-average Cricut user.
1. Knowing when to use HTV vs. Printable iron-on vs. DTF
If you make shirts, aprons, or any other heat transfer project, you know that for certain designs, it may be best to switch up the material you’re using.
You have heat transfer vinyl (HTV) which is vinyl that you cut with your Cricut machine, weed (remove extra vinyl), and then apply to your base material.
You also have printable inkjet iron-on sheets which allow you to print with an inkjet printer and then cut with your Cricut or hand scissors (if necessary), and then apply to your base material.

And then you have DTF (direct to film) which are designs that are printed for you and all you have to do is apply to your base materials.
If you want to save time making your heat transfer projects then you need to know how each of these 3 materials works and which one is best for you.
In short, if you absolutely hate weeding HTV and you still want to make your own designs, you should invest in an Epson Ecotank 2850 printer or a sublimation printer so you can print your designs and apply them to your base material.
If you don’t want to weed HTV, invest in a printer, or if you’re short on time, you should order DTFs. With this option, all you have to do is press your designs onto your base materials.
Be mindful of where you order your DTFs because some companies won’t make DTFs that have copyrighted material such as cartoon characters, etc.
2. Knowing how to make your own SVG files
If you want to be an above-average Cricut user you need to know how to make your own SVG files. Yes, you can buy SVG files on Etsy, Creative Market, Cricut Design Space, etc., but if you want to get really advanced and create your own designs from scratch, you’ll need to learn how to make your own SVG files.

I recommend you get started with Inkscape, a free graphic design software. It does take a bit of time to learn how to use this software, but you will be forever grateful once you learn how to use it.
With Inkscape, you’ll be able to trace images that you find online and make edits to them to create new designs.
You can also use Adobe Illustrator (about $30 per month), Canva (about $15 per month), or Affinity Designer (about $70 for desktops and $20 for iPads).
3. Knowing where to get the best supplies inexpensively
An above-average Cricut user knows where to get the best supplies for a great price. Casual Cricut users tend to overspend on items because they don’t create enough and they don’t look for sales on supplies.
If you’re a Cricut user who creates often and if you sell your Cricut projects, you’re always looking for sales and you try to avoid paying full price for items.
For the most part, I get all of my Cricut products from Amazon. Check out my Amazon Storefront.
4. Knowing how to use Cricut Design Space
If you don’t know how to use Cricut Design Space, you can’t be an above-average Cricut user.
Updates are made to the Cricut Design Space software all the time and if you’re not using the software regularly the updates will catch you off guard.
An above-average Cricut user will also know workarounds and hacks to use in Design Space to do the things you want to do.
Get my step-by-step Cricut Insider ebook that has screenshots of using Cricut Design Space.
5. Knowing how to ask questions, research, and get help
Above-average Cricut users are ready to research, ask questions, and get help. They don’t get frustrated and shut down their Cricut machine and laptop and let their machines sit and collect dust for months.
They get on Reddit, Facebook, and the “comments” on social media and they ask their questions without fear of judgment.
They watch YouTube videos and read blogs to see what they can do differently.
They’re determined to find a solution to their problem and learn how to create all the Cricut projects they love.
If you’re ready to learn your Cricut machine, book a 1-on-1 session with me. You won’t regret it!

7 Bad Cricut Habits To Quit Today
Bad Cricut habits can stop you from creating the Cricut projects you love and can also waste your time and money.
Learn what these bad Cricut habits are so you can stop doing them.
1. Not learning how to use your Cricut machine
If you bought your Cricut machine because you were super excited to create and then let it sit in the box once you got it, you’re doing yourself a disservice.
This is a bad Cricut habit that many Cricut beginners have and I understand, I did the same thing when I first got my Cricut machine.
Once I had my Cricut I immediately felt overwhelmed with learning how to do all the things and I didn’t know where to start.
Luckily for you, there are Cricut bloggers and Cricut YouTubers like myself that you can look to for help.
If you need live in-person help over Zoom, I offer that and you can schedule a Zoom call with me here.
Beat this bad habit of not learning how to use your Cricut machine and start making those crafts you’ve been taking screenshots of.
2. Going a long time without using your Cricut machine
Let’s say you do know how to use your Cricut machine, but you haven’t used it in a long time. Well, you’re going to forget how to use Design Space when you open it up the next time.
The reason is that updates are being made to Cricut Design Space every other week and if you go more than 1 month without using your Cricut, it may look like brand new software when you start back using it.
You will have forgotten where certain functions are and then you will be overwhelmed and not using your machine again.
Make it a habit to use your Cricut machine a few times a month even if it’s to make something small for a loved one, coworker, church member, etc.
3. Not saving your projects with specific names
If you’re not saving your Cricut project with specific names, you need to ditch this bad habit right now.
When you create something in Cricut Design Space you may be tempted to not save your project at all or to give it a vague name.
Don’t do that.
If you’re making shirts for Ashley Brown’s baby shower, then this is the name you should give that Cricut project “Ashley Brown Baby Shower Shirts”.
See the image below:

That may seem like overkill, but you may need to use that same project again for someone else’s baby shower, and if you just named the project “shirts123” you will have to scroll through all of your projects to find what you’re looking for.
Moral of the story, get specific with naming your Cricut projects.
4. Not organizing your SVG files
This is along the same line as the bad habit above, but you need to save your SVG files with names you can search for and also organize them where you can easily find them.
If you have some SVG files in your Downloads folder, others in your Documents folder, and others in an Etsy folder, you’re going to waste a lot of time searching for SVG files when you could be creating projects.
I recommend you create 1 folder that’s called “SVG Files” and then within that folder you can create subfolders based on where you get your SVG files from or based on a category as seen in the picture below:

5. Throwing away your Cricut mats too soon
If you’re a Cricut beginner don’t throw your Cricut mats away after using them a few times. As your mats become less sticky, you can wash them a few times to make them last longer.
Another hack is to get some adhesive spray to spray onto your mat to make it last a bit longer and you can also use double-sided tape to make your material stick to your mat.
Obviously, at some point you’ll need to throw your mats away, but why not try to make them last a bit longer?
If you didn’t know, you can buy other mats that aren’t Cricut brand including Nicapa, HTVRONT, and others.
6. Saving projects or pictures of projects that you never make
A major bad habit that a lot of Cricut users have is saving projects in Cricut Design Space or screenshotting projects but never creating them.
If you check the photos in your phone you can probably count 50+ screenshots of Cricut projects that you’ve never attempted to make.
When you saw the project on Instagram or Facebook you just knew you would create it for someone, but eventually you forgot about it.
The same thing applies when you see cool projects in Cricut Design Space and you bookmark them, only to never end up making them.
End this bad habit now and start making those projects. Stop looking for new ideas for Cricut projects and start creating the ones you already have saved.
7. Buying supplies for projects that you never make
This bad habit goes in line with the one above, but if you buy supplies just because they’re on sale or in hopes that you’ll make a project one day, please stop.
Buying supplies and not making Cricut projects is a waste of money. Sure, you’ll probably make a project using those supplies a few months down the road, but why buy things just to clutter your craft space?
Make a commitment to yourself to not buy any more supplies unless you’re about to make something for yourself or someone else.
