Waiting. In 2021, no one likes to wait. The older generation looks at the younger generation and says “They’re always in a hurry” or they say something like “They’re the microwave generation”, “They want instant gratification”, “They want a quick-fix” and the phrases go on.
But I want to correct the misperception. Millennials or “young people” aren’t the only ones who don’t like to wait. Stay around anyone of any age (yes, older people too) and you’ll hear them mention or hint at something not being done fast enough or something taking too long.
To put a biblical spin on it, I want to highlight 3 stories in the Bible that show the consequences of not waiting on God. A lot of times when the Lord tells us to wait, we think He says no, and so therefore, we go. Isn’t that something? He says wait and we decide to go. I think of it as a yield sign. A yield sign isn’t a stop sign, although sometimes when you’re yielding, you have to stop and WAIT until you’re clear to go.
Here are 3 high-level biblical stories of people deciding not to wait on the Lord, but to take matters into their own hands.
Please read each story in detail to gain a full understanding.
The moral of the story is, when you don’t wait on the Lord, you end up with consequences that hurt or nag you in the end. The Lord knows what’s best for us and that’s why he wants us to wait for his appointed time to make things happen. The awesome commentary in my Bible sums it up like this, “God often uses delays to test our obedience and patience”.
One of my favorite songs for this season is by Maverick City Music titled Wait on You.
Comment below and let me know how you wait on the Lord. Do you pray? Do you worship? Do you prepare?
